What will this course give you as an individual?
- Most of your training & Assessments in one go, without wasting months or even years for the next training course or assessment.
- The ability to advance rapidly by giving you the knowledge & hands on experience, thus the confidence to progress in this Industry
- To approach any employer as a qualified and sought after chainsaw operator, which in this economic climate would put you in a most favourable position to gain employment, or if you decide to go into business for yourself. It goes without saying that this course does not give you years of experience, but combine that with a great introduction to forestry , over 160hrs of contact with industry professionals, the training & qualifications you achieve, now this is a recipe for success.
Achieving 7 City & Guilds/NPTC awards:
- 0039-20 Award in chainsaw maintenance & Cross-cut Timber using a Chainsaw
- 0039-21 Award in felling and processing trees up to 380mm
- 0039-33 Award in felling and processing Medium trees over 380mm and up to 760mm
- 0039-35 Award in dealing with interwoven stems and part blown trees
- Award in Branch Removal and Breakdown of a Crown
- 0039-30 Award in Assisted Fell Operations
- Optional use of tractor based Skidder or Forwarder
- 50% Funding can apply

Funding options:
- Modern Apprenticeships (MA) – working for you from day one apprentices gain the skills you need to increase productivity. SDS will make a contribution to training costs and a learning provider can organise the training for you if required.
- Employer Recruitment Incentive (ERI) – employers get an incentive of up to £2,000 –depending on criteria – to take on a Modern Apprentice who has had a barrier to employment in the past or is unemployed.
- Flexible Training Opportunities (FTO) – businesses with existing staff of up to 150 employees can get up to 50% of training costs reimbursed up to a maximum of £5000 for 10 training episodes. FTOs aim to help smaller firms weather the recession.
- Low Carbon Skills Fund – Businesses who train their staff in carbon reduction and energy efficiency, can access up to £500 each towards a maximum of 25 training experiences
