Certificate of Competence in the Thorough Examination of Arboricultural Equipment
The LOLER certification training course aimed at those who inspect lifting equipment in the arboriculture industry. The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) 1998 require that all lifting equipment is subject to a regular thorough inspection by a competent person.

Qualification Overview: Inspecting a range of arboricultural rigging equipment to prove competence in recognising faults and various loads and limits involved with arboricultural rigging equipment. The course also covers legislation and terminology and the following topics:
- Legislative framework
- Responsibilities of a ‘competent person’
- Equipment marking, inspection and maintenance
- Neighbour component compatibility and correct component configuration
- Lifting system design
- Decision making procedures to accept, quarantine or reject components.
- Record keeping and reporting
The assessment is carried out on day 5 and comprises of a written exam and a practical assessment.
